Thank you for choosing Online Counselling at HBS.

The ground rules that are set out here are for you to get the best out of your counselling relationship with us. The counselling relationship and support we are offering - is for you. Your space and time to write and tell us about your story and feelings.

The counselling we are offering will not be appropriate for everyone. If you are actively contemplating suicide or are in a dangerous crisis where you, or somebody close to you is at risk, you will need to contact a 24 hour crisis counselling service, such the Samaritans - jo@samaritans.org 08457 90 90 90.

Confidentiality Everything you tell us will be treated as confidential. The only times any details of your story will be shared - will be for supervision. In supervision, your counsellor will share their work with you and evaluate the work, with a trained supervisor. Both the counsellor and supervisor will only refer to you - anonymously. None of the information you provide to us will be disclosed to any other third party, unless there is a real risk of 'harming yourself or others'. Even at this point, we would seek your agreement/permission to disclose any personal details. The only other times we would break confidentiality would be in line with BACP rulings e.g. If a client seems incapable of making rational decisions for him or herself, a client threatens or intimidates the counsellor, or we receive a court order requiring us to divulge information.

We will do everything we can from our side to ensure your counselling session is as secure as possible. No third parties or outside viewers will be allowed into your session (other than, on occasion) your counsellors supervisor. We would hope that, you in turn, would ensure that your written exchanges with your counsellor would not be left 'on screen' or available to another person. Computer security is only as strong as its weakest link, so whilst this site will use secure practices and protocols, please ensure your system is also secure. Your password and username are unique to you. Please look after them and please ensure you close all your screens when you log out from your sessions.

Session Information Your sessions will be text based and will run for 45 minutes, at a time and day agreed between yourself and your counsellor. After 6 sessions (6 weeks) there will be an opportunity, by negotiation, to extend the relationship by another 6 or 12 sessions. The counsellor you will be working with will have specialist training in grief and loss counselling and will be experienced in bereavement and loss work. Both you and your counsellor will need to log on to the HBS website at the agreed time, and enter the counselling suite.
